Calvert County is a homely place with many hidden gems! Here's a list of some things to do in Calvert so you don't miss a thing when traveling here; or if you live here and don't know what to do.

  1. Chesapeake Railway and Beach Museum: Visit the museum and view the history of the Chesapeake by observing what was collected, preserved, and shared with our community the story of the railway, the resort, and the vision that launched this place.  
  2. Bruce Snake Gabrielson's Surf Art Gallery and Museum: A museum focused on sports and culture, contains many significant historical items related to the sport of surfing. Reserve your spot at the museum to be able to see many artifacts that cannot be found anywhere else!
  3. Solomon's Island Winery: They create quality award-winning wines for you to share with family and friends for any occasion. With their business growing constantly since opening in 2002, to the point where they've had to move to a bigger facility twice, this winery is a nice place to gather and have fun while enjoying the river view. 
  4. Solomon's Boat Ramp and Fishing Pier: A place to go fishing, take your boat, kayak, or canoe out. A beautiful place for early morning or late evening pictures of the horizon. 
  5. Running Hare Vineyard: A great and beautiful place to enjoy some wine, food, wine slushies and more. Book an event of your own or join theirs. With many events that include music, or even drive-in movies, this vineyard is perfect for just about anyone!
  6. Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary: A popular field trip for local schools, cypress swamp is The Nature Conservancy's first preserve in Maryland. With a boardwalk trail, nature studying, birdwatching, interpretive exhibits, and a picnic area, the swamp is perfect for everyone!
  7.  Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum: Home of the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab), and many other secrets waiting to be discovered by you. A great place for a family fun day in the fields or on the beach, any type of events including weddings or birthday partys, and a great place for family photos. JPPM has many interactive exhibits, educational programs, and hiking trails. 
  8. Scorpion Brewery: A microbrewery that uses all local ingredients. A great place to enjoy fresh beer and quality time with friends and family, and the occasional food truck brought in 
  9. Perigeaux Vineyard and Winery: Another great place to enjoy some wine with friends and family. Join them in their events, or create your own!
  10. Tiki Bar: Open April to November, the Tiki Bar of Solomons Island is a great place to chill with friends and have fun. Whether you drove their, or parked your boat at the docks nearby, Tiki is a place with live music and great company!
  11. American Chestnut Land Trail: Dedicated to protecting, caring for and sharing land within the Parkers Creek and Governor’s Run watersheds, support balanced growth by promoting land conservation for the aesthetic, environmental and economic benefit of Calvert County. A 22 mile hiking trail open year-round that can take you from Prince Frederick to Port Republic. 
  12. Cove Point Lighthouse: Restored and re-purposed active lighthouse and keeper's home, that can be rented out for family vacations, with public grounds for locals to enjoy during the summer. Lighthouse grounds and visitors center open May through September. 
  13. Drum Point Lighthouse: With entry allowed yearly (weather permitting and if the museum is open) through purchasing a ticket to the museum, the lighthouse is only one of three remaining from forty-five that once served the Chesapeake Bay at the beginning of the twentieth century. Tour the lighthouse when available and discover the history behind the 1800's monument. 
  14. Calvert Marine Museum: Pre-history, natural history, and maritime heritage come together to tell a unique story of the Chesapeake Bay. Offers live animals, fossils, interactive exhibits, daily activities, and allows you to explore the lighthouse. 
  15. Imaginarium: Indoor play space dreamed of and designed by a local teacher, let your children hands-on, interactive, and drop-in play-based center for children aged 1-10. Plan any event, such as a birthday party, fieldtrip, or playdate here!
  16. Annmarie Gardens: The sculpture garden features a 1/4 mile walking path that meanders through the woods past permanent and loaned sculpture, including over thirty works on loan from the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art. Not only can you enjoy the sculptures, enjoy some of the holiday events, such as Christmas lights through the garden. As well as planning your own events, such as a wedding. 
  17. Chesapeake Waterpark: Family-friendly destination featuring pools, slides, & waterfalls, plus private cabana rentals. Enjoy a day at the waterpark located in-between North Beach and Chesapeake Beach with the view of the Bay and wildlife surrounding it. 
  18. Flag Ponds Nature Park:  Protecting and preserving  Calvert County’s natural heritage and the creation of an environmentally literate and aware community.  With a beach, trail, and many interactive activities, this park is great for anyone and is also a popular field trip site. 
  19. Chesapeake and North Beach:  With the water park, some boardwalk trail, Chesapeake Beach is a great family place. As well as North Beach, whose boardwalk is along the water that has a large fishing pier attached. Enjoy a stroll along the boardwalks and some of the local shops, with a farmers market May through September. 
  20. Calvert Cliffs State Park: With a recycled tire park for kids in the front, a pond just behind the park for fishing, a 13 mile trail to the water, and plenty of land for hunters, this park is made for just about anyone!
