Hollywood is an unincorporated community located within St. Mary's County, Maryland. It was named in 1867, when a store owner at Thompson's General Store near the Union town section of Hollywood required a name for the post office inside the store. The store owner was inspired by the gigantic holly tree planted in front of the store and named the post office Hollywood.
When it comes to  food, i would say Hollywood has got you covered. I hear nothing but good things aboutThe Cow and Fish on Three Notch Road. You can even get a taste of Northern India when dining at Bollywood Masala, which also has an attached tavern. If you are looking to dine outside along the Patuxent River,  visit Stoney’s at Clarke’s Landing. Dine inside the remodeled Clarke’s Landing location, or enjoy your meal outdoors on the deck with stunning views of the river. You can even come by boat and dock along the pier just down from the outside deck.
There are more than restaurants in Hollywood, there are events! There is the Southern Maryland Bourbon Distillery Tour & Tasting at Tobacco Barn Distillery on July 5th beginning at 11 a.m. What better way to spend some of your July 4th long weekend than learning about Bourbon distilling in America? Take the kids July 12th and head to Historic Sotterley at 10 a.m for Family Friendly Fridays. Get down to earth for story time, hands-on learning with art, technology and nature from 10 am - noon, and then enjoy the site on your own for the rest of the day . July 12th they will be making their own clay! Last, but not least, the Annual Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department Carnival! Rides, cotton candy, and tons of fun July 5th-July 7th! AND Thursday July 11th - Monday July 15th! Why wait? Head to Hollywood!
